How to Tell Ants and Termites Apart
Every year, we get calls from frantic homeowners who think they have termites, when all they actually have is an ant problem. To help you distinguish between the two, here's an illustrated guide to telling ants and termites apart.
First, notice that ants have elbowed antennae, whereas termites' antennae are straight or gently bowed.

Ants are hourglass-shaped and have narrow "waists," but termites' bodies are cigar-shaped.

Un till they fall off, a termite alate's wings are about the same length, but ant's front wings, when present, are longer than than the back wings.
